As We Go
scored for B flat or C Trumpet and Piano
duration 9 minutes
As We Go portrays a cyclical aspect of human existence: the recurring presence of our restless mind. Thoughts jump, we think in associations, attention is fragmented. From generation to generation, the same patterns return. What changes is not the mechanism itself, but the way we learn to live with it—how we try to guide it, or choose to let it go.
In Up and Down, this continuous mental motion becomes manifest. Thoughts rise like short motifs; they leap, return, and repeat. Thinking oscillates between tension and relaxation, between control and its loss. Stillness appears only in brief moments. Everywhere is Nowhere reveals a rare shift. What comes to the fore is not the disciplining of thought, but the moment in which reality coincides with how we ourselves perceive it. In Somewhere in the Middle, this letting go takes on a bodily form. The music unfolds as a ritual, almost tribal dance in which repetition silences thought. A circling pulse takes over; the mind is given no chance to wander, and surrender becomes central.
