Unlike the tradition of the piano quintet, this piece tries not to oppose piano and strings in some heroic battle. More than anything all instruments live in a delicate counterpoint, sometimes naive, simple and lyrical, sometimes childish, sometimes funky.

'Piano Quintet' is dedicated to Desguin Quartet. The first performance was on October 8, 2022 in C Harelbeke (Belgium). Desguin Quartet and Mathias at the piano recorded the piece in June 2022 at Concertgebouw Brugge.
